RARE and Highly Collectable!!!! A Textile Historians Dream.
In all of our year collecting and discovering Vintage Clothing, we have never come across another. A Super Rare and a True testament to fashion and history, we present this Patchwork "Make do and mend" Robe. In the 1930-40s when fabrics were rationed due to the war, if you wanted to wear something new you often had to make use of left over material and re-fashioning of existing items. This Lovely Robe looks like it was started in the late 1910s to early 1920s with it's tissue silk lining, so often used in flapper dresses and Japanese Kimonos and has since then been a work in progress, amended, fixed, mended and re-used showing patchwork pieces in silk, rayon, cotton and wool until the end of the 1940s, judging by the layers of materials used. In some places the outer fabrics have torn to reveal the under layers and this is just such a glimps in to her history! This really belongs to a museum and we have had it in our personal collection for 20 years but feel it is now time to let go and let You enjoy feeling the Wings of History!
There are lots of rips and tears to the fabric but this is all part of the amazingness of this item and NOT considered damage. There is no fastening but would be worn open. For condition please study our detailed images carefully as they form part of the description.
